How to make quality candles that respect indoor air quality?

Vegetable waxes help limit the quantity of pollutants emitted into the air.

There are many different types of candle wax, but the ones most often found on the market are made from kerosene, a petroleum derivative, or from a mixture of several waxes.

While wax is an important component of a good-quality candle, the wick is no less essential. It is the wick that ensures the product burns properly, and therefore emits fewer of the particles that make up soot and other volatile compounds.

When a candle burns, a number of factors can have an impact on the quantity of pollutants it releases into the air. Wax, fragrance and wick can all improve the quality of combustion, reducing the candle's impact on air quality.

Making a good-quality candle is possible thanks to the support of our experts. WESSLING carries out tests in test chambers to guide manufacturers in the Research & Development of combustion products that pollute indoor air less.
